I was struck with a thought in the shower this morning.
Before I get to the thought, anyone want to help me pitch RIM on a waterproof blackberry? It seems I come up with thoughts when I’m in the shower, but my short-term memory doesn’t always work right. By the time I get done showering, toweled off, and get to the blackberry to post my thought, then it’s gone. I’m thinking the remedy to the problem is a waterproof blackberry. Any takers?
Back to the thought…
Are you employed?
Today is a big day for the Simants’. After four years of “wandering in the wilderness”, we are going to formalize our commitment to Asbury UMC, by becoming members and having the children baptized. I was thinking this morning about our journey to Asbury, and the informal commitment that we have had there for the past year+, and all the things that particular body of Christ-Followers has been to us. It is overwhelming.
The thought then progressed to an old saying from my younger days: “what God employs, God empowers.” God has brought so many great people into out lives, and we are very grateful. Yet, there’s this common thread that runs through all of those individuals. Each of them have been equipped too minister to me, our family, Asbury, and the broader Body of Christ in ways that no one else could. What God employs, God empowers.
And then the thought turned around, maybe the comment should really be: “What God empowers, God employs.”
God has granted to each of us a special set of knowledge, skills and abilities to use in our lives. The key being that God leaves it to us to determine exactly how – and if – we elect to use those tools.
I have come to realize that God is done God’s part by wiring us to be the people that God wants us to be. Yet, have we done our part?
In other words, “Are you employed?”
