2010 Day 3 — A Virtual World

I’ve posted before about my Second Life worship group.  I just came from another great Sunday night prayer service at 1PCSL.  I find it amazing how many of those who worship together have never met in real life, yet still hold a sense of closeness.  I wonder if Jesus knew that when He said that where two or more gather, that gathering might be virtual?

A quick history.  Neill Loxingly (Neal Locke in real life) and I went to ORU together.  We caught back up after a few years of not communicating on Facebook.  About a year ago, he began leading 1PCSL meetings in Second Life.  I kept thinking that one day I’d show up, but never did.  Finally, a few months ago, I was able to make a service.  While I miss from time-to-time, I tend to hit more than miss.  It’s a great experience.  Through that group, I’ve become acquainted with other folks in real life, that I would not have otherwise met, and Neill/Neal and I have been able to renew an old friendship.

What a great experience!  (I’ve even been able to partake in a small group discussion with PC-USA Moderator, Bruce Reyes-Chow!)

Neal, thanks to you and Menchor for the vision and to all of my 1PCSL family, Thanks for the fellowship, friendship, and showing me that online relationships can be just as real as offline relationships!

Blessings to you all!

One Response to 2010 Day 3 — A Virtual World

  1. Neal Locke says:

Awesome! It’s been great for me, too. As a seminary student, I’ve learned more about ministry, church planting, prayer, worship and pastoral care from Second Life than I have in my seminary classes. Not to say that my classes are bad — I learn a lot there too, but this experience has been very practical.

I’m glad you’re blogging about it, too. I keep meaning to, but blogging hasn’t been my strong suit the last year or so…
